Business name numerology calculator

Type up to three names you are considering for your shop, firm or company and see each one’s Chaldean name number. Add the owner’s date of birth to see which name sits best with their Moolank and Bhagyank.

Write each name exactly as customers will see it: on the signboard, the website, the visiting card or the invoice. If the registered name is different from the brand name, check both.

Method

How the business name number is calculated

  1. Letters become numbers

Each English letter of the business name gets its Chaldean value from 1 to 8. Only the letters A to Z count: spaces, dots, hyphens, “&” and digits are left out, and titles such as Shri, Sri, Mr and Dr are skipped.
  2. Compound and single number

All letter values are added to give a compound total, for example 51. Its digits are added again until one digit is left (51 → 6). That digit is the business name number.
  3. The owner’s numbers

From the owner’s date of birth the calculator finds the Moolank (day of birth reduced to one digit) and the Bhagyank (all digits of the date added and reduced).
  4. Compare and rank

Each name number is paired with the Moolank and with the Bhagyank using the traditional friendship of their ruling planets. Names are ranked by their weaker pair first, and the numbers that sit well with both are listed.

Why the Chaldean chart

The calculator uses the Chaldean chart, which is widely used in Indian name numerology, and reads a business name the same way as a personal name (Naamank). The chart gives each letter a value from 1 to 8 by its sound, and no letter is given 9. A name total can still reduce to 9.

The calculator also shows the Western (Pythagorean) Expression number for each name, for readers who follow that system. The ranking uses the Chaldean number only.

Worked example: three names for one sweet shop

An owner born on 23-08-1989 is opening a sweet shop and has shortlisted three names. The names are invented for this example; they are not real businesses. First, each name is turned into its Chaldean number:

Each word total is the sum of its Chaldean letter values. Full letter-by-letter working is shown in the calculator steps.
NameWord totals (Chaldean)Compound → numberRuling planet
Kesarvan SweetsKESARVAN 25 + SWEETS 2651 → 6Venus (शुक्र)
Kesarvan Mithai GharKESARVAN 25 + MITHAI 16 + GHAR 1152 → 7Ketu (केतु)
Kesarvan FoodsKESARVAN 25 + FOODS 2954 → 9Mars (मंगल)

Next, the owner’s numbers. Moolank: day 2 + 3 = 5. Bhagyank: 2 + 3 + 0 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 9 = 40 → 4. Each name number is then paired with both:

Pair scores run from 0 (difficult) to 4 (excellent). Names are ranked by their weaker pair first, then by the total.
RankNameNumberWith Moolank 5With Bhagyank 4Fit
1Kesarvan Sweets6Excellent (4)Good (3)Supportive
2Kesarvan Mithai Ghar7Good (3)Average (2)Neutral
3Kesarvan Foods9Challenging (1)Difficult (0)Needs review

Kesarvan Sweets comes first: its number 6 (Venus) is excellent with Moolank 5 and good with Bhagyank 4. Kesarvan Mithai Ghar (7) is neutral, because its pair with the Bhagyank is only average. Kesarvan Foods (9, Mars) needs review: it is challenging with the Moolank and difficult with the Bhagyank. For this owner, the name numbers that sit well with both are 4, 5, 6 and 8.

This is a reading of the name numbers only. It does not predict sales or success; the product, the location and the work that goes into the shop matter far more.

Meanings

Business name numbers use the same nine planets as Moolank and Bhagyank. These short notes describe the kind of work each number is traditionally linked with. They are a starting point, not a verdict: a number that suits one owner can be a poor match for another.

Choosing a name

How to shortlist and compare names

Most people come to this calculator with two or three names already in mind: a family name, a deity’s name, a word from the trade. Before you check numbers, cut the list to names you would be happy to see on your board. Then enter them with the exact spelling you plan to use, and read the result in this order:

Check against the owner

Add the date of birth of the person who runs the business. A name number is read against their Moolank and Bhagyank, so the same name can suit one owner and not another.

Look at the weaker pair

A name that is excellent with the Moolank but difficult with the Bhagyank is ranked below one that is good with both. The calculator ranks this way on purpose.

Then the practical test

Say each name aloud, write it on a board, and check that the domain and social handles are free and that no one nearby trades under it. A well-matched number does not help a name nobody remembers.

Spelling variations: Pvt Ltd, “&” and initials

Every letter counts, so the same business can give different numbers depending on how it is written. Here is the top name from the worked example written a few different ways, checked against the same owner:

Same owner as the worked example (Moolank 5, Bhagyank 4). Names are invented for illustration.

Kesarvan Sweets Private LimitedWith "Private Limited" in fullKESARVAN 25 + SWEETS 26 + PRIVATE 27 + LIMITED 22100 → 1Needs review

Shree Kesarvan Sweets"Shree" added in frontSHREE 20 + KESARVAN 25 + SWEETS 2671 → 8Supportive

Pvt Ltd, LLP and other suffixes

“Pvt Ltd” adds 29 to the compound and “Private Limited” adds 49, so they can give different results: here Kesarvan Sweets becomes 8 with Pvt Ltd and 1 with Private Limited. Check the suffix the way it is actually written on your documents.

“&” or “and”

The “&” sign is not a letter, so it adds nothing. The word “and” written in full adds 10 (A 1, N 5, D 4). That is why Kesarvan & Sons gives 7 while Kesarvan and Sons gives 8.

Initials and short forms

Initials count as single letters, so K S Sweets (4) reads differently from Kesarvan Sweets (6). Use initials in the calculator only if customers will actually see and say them that way.

A note on Shri and Shree: the calculator skips Shri and Sri as titles, the same way it does for personal names, but counts Shree as a word (Shree Kesarvan Sweets gives 8). If Shri is part of your brand on the board, ask Namieta to read that version. Adding or changing one letter shifts the total by that letter’s value, which is why owners sometimes adjust a spelling. Keep the name easy to read and say; a spelling customers keep getting wrong works against you.

Legal name or brand name

Which name should you count?

A business often has two names: the brand on the signboard, website and visiting card, and the registered name on the GST certificate, bank account and company papers. They can give different numbers, as the table above shows. The brand name is the one customers see and say every day, so it is usually checked first. The registered name is the one on contracts and accounts, so check it as a second entry.

If you already trade under a registered name, a common approach is to choose or adjust the brand name and leave the registration as it is. Any change to a registered name involves paperwork, so plan it with your CA or company secretary.

Running the business with a partner?

This calculator compares a name with one person’s numbers. When two or more partners own the business, Namieta also looks at how the partners’ numbers sit with each other and with the name. You can try the numerology compatibility calculator for any two dates of birth, or read about the Business Partner Compatibility consultation.

When to ask Namieta

  • The registered name and the brand name give different numbers and you are not sure which to work on.
  • None of your shortlisted names sits well with both the Moolank and the Bhagyank.
  • You are thinking of changing the spelling of a name you already trade under, or the name on official documents.
  • Two or more partners own the business, so the name has to be read with more than one date of birth.
  • You want the name read together with the opening date, the shop or office number and your Kundli.

FAQ

Business name numerology questions

Whose date of birth should I enter?

Enter the date of birth of the owner, or of the person who runs the business day to day. For a partnership, check the names against each partner’s date of birth one by one. Namieta looks at all the partners together in a consultation.

Do “&”, numbers or symbols in the name count?

No. Only the letters A to Z are counted, so “&”, dots, hyphens and digits are ignored. If you write the word “and” in full, its letters are counted. A name with digits in it, such as a number in the brand, can also be read for the digits; ask Namieta about that.

What is the best number for a business name?

There is no single best number for everyone. A name number is read against the owner’s Moolank (मूलांक) and Bhagyank (भाग्यांक), and the calculator lists the numbers that sit well with both. The type of business matters too, which is why the notes above link each number with kinds of work.

Can I change the spelling of a name I already use?

Yes, many owners adjust the spelling on the board and in branding, for example by adding a letter. Changing a registered name involves paperwork, so plan it with your CA or company secretary. Speak to Namieta before you change anything, so the new spelling suits you and is still easy to read.

Does “Shri” or “Shree” at the start of the name count?

The calculator treats Shri and Sri as titles and skips them, as it does for personal names, but it counts Shree as a word. Many shops in India start with Shri or Shree, so if it is part of your brand on the board, mention it when you ask Namieta and she will read the full version.

Should the shop number and opening date also suit me?

Many people check them together with the name. You can use the house number numerology calculator for a shop or office number and the lucky date calculator to shortlist an opening date; a muhurat from the Panchang is worked out separately.
