How it is calculated
The Lo Shu grid is a 3×3 magic square from ancient China. The numbers 1 to 9 sit in fixed boxes, arranged so that every row, every column and both diagonals add up to 15. Take the top row: 4 + 9 + 2 = 15. Take a diagonal: 4 + 5 + 6 = 15.
In numerology, each box stands for one number and its ruling planet. Your date of birth decides which boxes are filled, which are filled more than once and which stay empty. The empty boxes are your missing numbers, and the full rows, columns and diagonals are called planes.
The fixed Lo Shu layout: 4 9 2 / 3 5 7 / 8 1 6
In the classic method, only the digits of your date of birth go on the grid. Most Indian numerologists also add two more numbers: your Moolank (मूलांक), which is the day of birth reduced to one digit, and your Bhagyank (भाग्यांक), which is all the digits of DD-MM-YYYY added and reduced to one digit. The calculator above uses the Indian method by default. Untick the box to switch to the classic grid and compare the two.
In both methods, zeros are ignored. The grid has no box for 0, so a 0 in your date is simply not placed.
Ananya's grid, Indian method
Switch the same date to the classic method and the picture changes. Without the Moolank 5 and Bhagyank 6, Ananya's grid is missing 3, 5, 6 and 8, and only the Mental plane is complete. This is why the two methods can give different readings, and why the calculator lets you choose.
Meanings
Each box of the grid belongs to a planet, an element and a direction of the home. When a number is missing, the usual advice is to build the quality it stands for and to look after its direction in your home. These are simple habits to try, not promises of a result.
For Ananya, the missing 3 (Jupiter, East) and 8 (Saturn, North-East) point to two habits: writing plans down and keeping a simple budget, along with keeping the East open and the North-East clean.
Reading the grid
A plane is a line of three boxes: the three rows, the three columns and the two diagonals. A plane is complete when all three of its numbers appear at least once. The calculator marks each plane as complete, partial (1 or 2 of 3 present) or empty.
A number that appears more than once adds weight to its qualities. Two of a number is usually read as a strength. Three or more can tip into excess, so the calculator adds a short note for every repeated number in your grid.
In Ananya's grid, 1 and 9 each appear twice. The note for 1 reads: "Repeated 1s make self-expression strong; with 3 or more, take care not to dominate conversations." The note for 9 reads: "Repeated 9s add strong drive; with 3 or more, channel energy into exercise or service."
The Lo Shu grid is a 3×3 magic square in which the numbers 1 to 9 sit in fixed boxes, and every row, column and diagonal adds up to 15. In numerology, the digits of your date of birth are placed in these boxes. The result shows which numbers are strong, repeated or missing in your chart.
Most Indian numerologists add both, and this calculator does so by default. The classic Lo Shu method uses only the digits of the date of birth. Both methods are in use, so the calculator lets you switch with one tick box and compare the two grids.
The grid has nine boxes for the numbers 1 to 9 and no box for 0. So a 0 in your date, as in 1990 or 2001, is simply not placed. A 0 is not counted as a missing number either.
Different teachers use the name Raj Yog for different lines of the grid. In this calculator, the diagonal 4-5-6 is called the golden (success) yog and the diagonal 2-5-8 the silver (property) yog. A yog is read as complete when all three of its numbers are present in your grid.
Each missing number is linked to a direction of the home, for example 1 with North and 9 with South. Keeping that zone clean, open and in use is a common and simple remedy, alongside building the habit the number stands for. Namieta looks at your grid and your home together before suggesting anything more.
No. The Lo Shu grid is drawn from your date of birth. The Kua number is a separate calculation that uses your birth year and gender, and this calculator does not work it out.
